So what is Oracle Public Cloud anyways?
Oracle Public cloud is an enterprise cloud for your business. You can build, deploy and run applications on the cloud without having to worry about the server, infrastructure, data centers and such.
In Oracle’s own words – OPC is a broad set of best-in-class, integrated services that provide customers with subscription-based, self-service access to Oracle Fusion Applications, Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Database, all completely managed, hosted and supported by Oracle.
Service Owners (Business):
Simple steps to get your service up and running.
- Sign up and Provision your service
- Subscribe: Monthly subscription rate for application and platform services; Pay as you go; Cancel anytime; very flexible.
- Add users: multi-tenanted identity management and directory service.
- Enrich with Content and Packaged tools: A set of packaged applications to enhance team productivity, all available in the cloud. These include Oracle and non-Oracle solutions and you can review, buy, and provision instantly.
- Flex-Deploy: Use a hybrid lifecycle. Enable your end users and code to deploy on premise or in Oracle Public cloud.
Oracle collect details about the service to create, provision the resources, activate and grant access to your environment through an email confirmation.
For Developers:
OPC gives you two great choices for building applications in the cloud.
- Java with WebLogic Service when you need a trusted environment for your most demanding application needs.
- A full Oracle Application Express (APEX) development environment inside the Database Service to help you rapidly build data-driven Web apps. With APEX, you can build, debug, and deploy entirely in the cloud. There are no tools to install.
Once the services are provisioned, they are activated, booted, and made immediately available for you to deploy your code.
Along with Java and APEX, Current OPC offerings include Fusion CRM, Fusion HCM, Oracle Social Network.
The Oracle Public Cloud runs on Oracle Engineered Systems, providing customers and partners with a high-performance, reliable, elastic, and secure infrastructure for their critical business applications.
“The Oracle Public Cloud is a little different,” said Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. “The Oracle Public Cloud is both a platform as a service and applications as a service. The key difference is the Oracle Public Cloud is based on industry standards and supports full interoperability with other clouds and your datacenter on premise.”
